EDMONTON, AB Mount Carmel Bible School is a small
transdenominational discipleship centre located in the Gold Bar
district of the provincial capital.
The mission of Mount Carmel is to equip ordinary Christians to
advance God's agenda in their world.
In pursuit of that agenda, Mount Carmel offers a unique one-year
program of studies which has three main components biblical
studies, spiritual formation and practical ministries.
The biblical studies program consists of the foundational courses
typical of the first year at most Bible colleges.
The spiritual formation program's aim is to encourage students to
take what they are learning and implement it into their everyday
lives. A high staff-to-student ratio is maintained so staff members
can work closely with individual students to promote their personal
spiritual growth.
All full-time students at Mount Carmel are also required to devote
six to eight hours per week serving in practical ways.
The urban setting provides the school with a broad spectrum of
church and community-based ministry opportunities. These include
inner-city churches and missions, prison ministries, ESL instruction
to new immigrants, youth drop-in centres, church-based youth groups,
children's clubs, and helping ministries for the elderly and those who
are physically or mentally challenged.
Since Mount Carmel believes that a person's Christian faith should
be learned and practiced in the real world, it insists students find
suitable accommodation in the community and assists them to do so.
Over the past 30 years, Mount Carmel has developed one of the best
discipleship programs anywhere.
