Since 1983, Koinonia Christian School - Red Deer (KCS-RD) has offered quality Christian education for Red Deer and area families. Founding principal, Mr. Vern Rand, started the school at Woodlea Pentecostal Church in Red Deer. Since then, the school has grown to approximately 200 students and moved to a larger facility. KCS-RD is a parent run school affiliated with the Koinonia Christian Education Society Family of Schools. The school believes that parents are ultimately responsible for the education of the child. Through the years, the spirit and integrity of the school has remained constant in the areas of: providing a caring and compassionate learning environment, teaching respect and order to the children, encouraging academic achievement, building children’s faith in Jesus as well as developing self-esteem and confidence. The school runs a full education program for Preschool to Grade 12. Every two years Koinonia provides field trips for some grades to Vancouver and a missions trip for Grades 9-12 to Mexico. On alternate years an educational trip to Europe has also been spearheaded by Koinonia Red Deer to include all Koinonia schools. KCS participates in other activities such as ski trips, swimming, and musical activities. This past year our grade 8/9 Band went on a short tour to two Northern Alberta Christian schools and we have hosted activities such as Music Fest for ACSI and track & field for Junior/Senior High for the other Koinonia Schools. Over the past year we were able to add 3 new classrooms and 3 offices to our school and this is very helpful and allows us to move further in one of the directions that God has laid on our hearts; that is being able to minister to more children with special needs.
