Worker: The Sonshine Centre is currently seeking a part-time
Child Care Worker provide child care in a safe and supportive
environment for children who have witnessed domestic violence and
are living in the Sonshine Centre. The position requires working
one evening a week. Responsibilities will include: Provide daily
care and supervision of children.
Ensure children‘s personal needs are met (example- feeding,
child’s hygiene, changing diapers and clothing, toileting etc).
Provide new experiences and a variety of play experiences. Support
social and emotional development and provide positive guidance.
Ensure appropriate limits are in place and communicated regularly.
Provide appropriate assistance, suggestions, encouragement,
comfort and support to each child. Appling knowledge of domestic
violence and the effects on children and families to interactions
with clients. Ensuring toy washing standards are upheld through
weekly cleaning routine.
Successful candidate will begin in early June 2010. Position will
run through March 31, 2011, and may continue beyond that if
funding is available. Applicants must meet the following
qualifications: Certified as a Level 1 or Child Care Assistant by
Child Care Staff Qualifications. Current CPR and First Aid (or
willing to obtain it in the first three months of employment).
Current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search
(within the last 6 months or willing to obtain one.)
Current Child Intervention Check (within the last 6 months or

(with opportunity to job share) position to provide counseling for
the children and to be a resource for the parents who are living
in the Sonshine Centre. The Child and Family Counselor will assess
the needs of each child and assist the resident in developing
their own individual goals for parenting, and provide child play
therapy as required. This position requires an individual with
excellent skills in counseling children, effective communication
with parents and coordinating skills. Responsibilities will
include: To oversee the operations of Children’s Program at
Sonshine Centre. To coordinate parenting groups for the mothers
and children in the shelter. To provide play therapy and
counseling for children. To oversee the operations of planning &
implementing skill development. Qualifications: Minimum of a
Bachelor of Social Work or related education. Minimum of three (3)
years experience with children and counseling skills and
preferably with children who have experienced family violence or
abuse. Certification in Children’s Play Therapy. Certified as a
Level 3 by Child Care Staff Qualifications & CPR and First Aid.

with ministries in four African countries by providing small
business grants to orphanage ministries. We also run a child
sponsorship program. OFA is currently headquartered in the USA and
we are working toward expanding into Canada. We are seeking a
volunteer Administrative Assistant (located anywhere in Canada) to
help set up OFA-Canada and volunteer from home. We are still in the
process of becoming registered as a Canadian charity, therefore some
duties include assisting the president with responding to the
Canadian Revenue Agency during our application process. The
volunteer would also assist with general administrative duties. Need
