Top-notch
musicians in Calgary

Former Juno winner Greg Sczebel finds himself among
the top contenders for the 32nd Annual Covenant
Awards taking place at Calgary’s First Alliance
Church on Friday, October 29. The Salmon Arm, BC
singer-songwriter is pictured performing at Deerfoot
Mall earlier this year. On the strength of his
latest CD, Love & The Lack Thereof, Sczebel garnered
eight nominations as the Gospel Music Association
Canada announced its slate of nominees on September
15. Only popular rockers, Starfi eld, secured
more nominations with nine. But Sczebel still stands
a chance of equaling their tally when the nominees
for the final category of Video of the Year are
unveiled at the beginning of October. Sczebel’s
radio hit, Causin’ A Commotion, is vying for Song of
the Year, Recorded Song of the Year and Folk/Roots
Song of the Year. He’s also competing with Starfi eld,
Matt Maher, Manafest and Newworldson for Artist of
the Year honors. Among Albertans, Edmonton’s
Junkyard Poets top the list with five nominations and
the band also has the potential for an additional
video nod. A complete list of nominations and ticket
information
for the national Christian music awards show is
