What happens when kids experience the power of prayer? They
commit to a monthly meeting and pray for children and the
issues they face around the world.
Kids who led the children’s section in
Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) 2005 continued to meet this
winter under the leadership of Deeds Irwin. She noted, "An
unexpected outcome of GDOP 2005 was an ongoing children’s
prayer ministry. The core group of 20 kids will lead this
year’s children’s prayer section."
Organizers of the GDOP 2006 are now
getting the word out. Pastors Dan MacNaughton, Les
Bon-Bernard, and their Pastoral Relations Committee are
connecting with churches of every denomination. Posters,
brochures and DVDs have been distributed. PowerPoint
presentations and other material will soon be on the GDOP
website.

A Calgary specific DVD was produced
combining video shot during GDOP 2005 with segments taken
from the Transformation Africa 2006 video. Churches received
both videos and have the option of using either.
Many who attended last year’s event were
impressed by the creative dancers. They gracefully moved
over the Saddledome floor twirling multicolored flags to add
beauty and pageantry to the corporate worship experience.
John and Catherine Pedora have been
rehearsing with 68 dancers but would like 150. "We need
dancers aged 6-60 from all denominations. We provide dance
and flagging technique training. Most of all, we have lots
of fun," Catherine said. There is no cost and volunteers may
call Catherine at 249-3838.
Worship music will once again be led by
Margaret Graham. The committee is considering the addition
of a 200 voice choir. As Jerry Proppe observed, "We want to
include as many praise elements as possible. A choir is a
natural step."
All of this speaks to the leadership
Calgary is providing to the prayer movement in Canada. Co-Director Murray Dodds has been contacted by groups
considering GDOP rallies in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto,
and Prince George. "We have a definite sense of God calling
His people to repentance and prayer for our nation."
Many hundreds of volunteers are needed to help manage the
11,000+ expected for GDOP 2006 on June 4th, Pentecost
Sunday. Please call 640-4091.
