VeggieTales on live tour in Canada
by John Syratt

Calgary-based Slyngshot Productions is presenting, for the first time in Western Canada, VeggieTales Rockin’ Tour Live with the all-time favorite characters, Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato and their friends in a high-energy, interactive show for five dates in March 2006.

VeggieTales videos, products and full-length movies have become a phenomenon among young and old alike with their witty humor and ingenious characters, promoting positive values for children and families for over a decade.

Starting on one computer in a spare bedroom, Big Idea, Inc. has grown to have their numerous videos and products distributed across North America through bookstores and several department store chains. They’ve sold well over 20 million videos since they began in 1993.

"When we were approached about partnering with Big Idea to promote this tour, we were honored to join forces with something that presented such positive values, and had such broad appeal to the general public," said Leroy Harder, founder and president of Slyngshot Productions. "Our mission of reaching out to the world with God’s love through large events fit so well with this that the work of putting this all together, and partnering with a truly live event that has just completed a major stadium tour in the US has been an amazing experience already."

On this tour, attendees can expect to see some of the famous VeggieTales characters come to life right before their eyes. The tour will combine a cleverly written script, engaging music, innovative costumes, timeless values and plenty of that wacky humor that VeggieTales fans enjoy so much. Interactive video screens, lighting show and some surprises are bound to get audiences excited, dancing and singing along with every word.

The live tour will hit Calvary Temple in Winnipeg, MB on March 26th at 3:30pm (matinee) and 7pm and then move on to Sherwood Park Alliance Church in Sherwood Park, AB on March 28th at 1pm (matinee) and 6:30pm. >From there it goes to Centre Street Church in Calgary, AB on March 29th at 1pm (matinee) and 6:30pm, before arriving at Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna, BC on March 30th at 1pm (matinee) and 6:30pm. The VeggieTales Rockin’ Tour Live finishes up at Sevenoaks Alliance Church in Abbotsford, BC on March 31st at 1pm (matinee) and 6:30pm.

"We have found through the promotion of this event that the reception has been overwhelmingly positive," Harder added. "Parents and kids of all ages, once they hear about the event, are eager to come. Our biggest challenge is to help those who attend church on a regular basis to use this as an opportunity to reach out beyond their own entertainment goals and bring non-churched neighbors and friends to this event. It is such a great opportunity for allowing our friends who otherwise would not attend church to come and see what we are all about. The humor and positive values combine to create a night that will be remembered."

Tickets are $16/person or group rate of $12/person for 10 or more. To find out where tickets are available for each venue and more information, go to www.veggietalescanada.com  or call Slyngshot Productions toll free at 1-877-275-5383 outside Calgary or 275-5383 in Calgary.
